Her name is Addie. She’s a 2-year-old golden and Labrador retriever mix who has made the Riverside Rest Home in Dover a happier place.
The companion dog was brought to the nursing home five weeks ago, and the residents could not be more excited.
Addie came to the home from Canine Companions for Independence. She knows about 40 commands and is learning more each day.
Addie is helping the residents with dementia, who see her as part of the family. She not only picks up dropped items, but, with unconditional love, helps people remember their own dog.
She can even be a source of calm. For her next trick, Addie is learning how to "bowl" with the residents.
