Community to hold 10K race in honor of Greenland police chief

GREENLAND – Tuesday marks the fourth anniversary of a drug raid that took the life of Police Chief Michael Maloney.

To honor Maloney's memory, volunteers have been raising funds for a charity in his name. The Chief Michael Maloney Memorial Fund will be hosting the 5th annual Chief Maloney Unity Run - a 10K race that will be held on April 24. The race begins at the Stratham Police Station and ends at Greenland's police headquarters. The memorial fund provides services to first responders, according to seacoastonline.com.

In the years since the group was formed, $100,000 in scholarships have been awarded as well as "direct and immediate financial assistance" that was awarded to the families of first responders wounded in the Boston Marathon Bombings, according to the charity.

Everyone crossing the finish line at this year's Chief Maloney Unity Run will be awarded a commemorative finisher medal. To register visit, www.millenniumrunning.com/maloney.

The charity is also looking for volunteers for the day of the race. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt, meal ticket, and if of age, a beer ticket.

Donations to the Chief Michael Maloney Memorial Fund can be made online or by check made out to "First Colebrook Bank, 2400 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801."
