Commercial truck driver falls asleep at wheel, crashes on I-89 in NH

GRANTHAM — A commercial truck carrying lumber and scaffolding crashed into a guardrail on I-89 after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The crash blocked both lanes of traffic, as the truck got hung up on top of the guard rail at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

The driver of the white Hino flatbed, Eric Dechellis, 28 of Manchester, was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for non-life-threatening injuries. He was employed by New England Scaffolding Services of Bow to drive from Burlington, Vt. to Bow, NH when he fell asleep at the wheel.

The road was closed, and a detour was put in place at exit 13 for over two-and-a-half hours while the crash was investigated and cleaned up.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
