Color Play Asia burn victim from NH recovering, happy to have love sent his way

The Associated Press

MONT VERNON — A New Hampshire man recovering in Taiwan after being severely burned in an explosion at a water park there last month has celebrated a birthday and is grateful for all the get-well wishes.

Speaking in a hoarse voice from his hospital bed in a recent brief video message, Alex Haas says he's "so happy to have so many awesome people and love" sent his way. Haas is covered in bandages; his face is clear.

The 27-year-old Haas of Mont Vernon, who was teaching in Taiwan, suffered the burns when a firestorm erupted after a flammable powder substance blew up over a park stage on June 28. Three people died and over 500 were hurt, 200 of them seriously.

The video is linked to a fundraising site established by Haas' family.
