Colombia, FARC agree on steps for freeing general

The Associated Press

HAVANA (AP) Countries assisting peace talks between Colombia's government and leftist rebels say an agreement has been reached on the steps needed for the release of an army general whose capture has put the negotiations in jeopardy.

A joint statement from Cuba, Norway, Venezuela and Chile says Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia have agreed "on the conditions for the release" of Gen. Ruben Dario Alzate.

The statement doesn't say when Alzate might be released or give any details on what the conditions are.
