Coliform bacteria found in Alstead school's water system
ALSTEAD — Department of Environmental Services announced that coliform bacteria has been found in the water of Alstead Vilas School.
"Most coliforms are not harmful and are common in the environment," Harrison Mackey, Drinking Water Quality Manager, said. "Because they are so prevalent and come from the same sources as many pathogenic bacteria, water systems are required to monitor for total coliform as an indicator to evaluate water quality."
E.coli was not present in the water system, Mackey said.
A review of the school file showed that the water system is in compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act regulations, Mackey also said.
