COAST bus line considering cutting route 7

NH1 News

EXETER – COAST Public Transit System is considering getting rid of Route 7 on its bus line, which connects Exeter, Greenland and Portsmouth.

The company sited funding cuts and low ridership as the reasoning. The route already has a limited schedule and budget cuts for the 2015 Fiscal Year will determine whether the company can sustain the route, which is funded by the surrounding towns it runs through. Some say it's an essential way of transportation around the seacoast.

"Yes, we have other options, but it's really unclear as to how limiting they are, as to the COAST routes, which are very consistent and daily and dependable. I think it's one of the first options that people look at if they don't have other means of transportation, "said Exeter Town Manager, Russell Dean.

COAST plans to meet with surrounding town governments to decide whether to change the route or just cut the brakes on it.
