Clerk beaten with baseball bat in Manchester robbery; suspect in custody
MANCHESTER - Police have arrested a suspect who beat a clerk with a baseball bat during a robbery Sunday morning at the 61 Market on Maple Street.
According to police, the 22-year-old clerk was attacked around 8:30 a.m. by a man who then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The clerk suffered injuries to his head and face as the robber punched and hit him with the bat. The clerk was able to activate a panic alarm which alerted police. They arrived just as the suspect fled.
An officer with a police dog gave chase, and police were able to place the suspect under arrest.
The clerk was taken to Elliot Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Gedeon Karasi, 22, who had no fixed address, was also treated at a local hospital for a dog bite. Karasi is being charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and robbery.
Police say additional information will be provided on Monday.
