Claremont fire forces residents to evacuate in early morning hours
CLAREMONT - An early morning fire forced residents out their home at 208 Main Street.
Firefighters say they were called out around 2:30 a.m. to the two-family residence and found an attached garage in flames. Several of the residents had already gotten out of the house but firefighters had to rouse one man and help him to safety.
Firefighters attacked the garage fire but had to deal with flames that had spread through an adjoining wall into one of the units. No one was injured and several pets were safely evacuated.
The fire was under control in less than an hour. It remains under investigation and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
