Child ambassador charms the crowd at 2017 kick-off breakfast Easterseals, Eversource 5K

MANCHESTER — A 5-year-old stole the show at Thursday's kickoff breakfast for the Eversource Walk & 5K Run for Easterseals.

This year, Elliot Perry took the stage as a client ambassador to advocate for the walk. Elliot has worked with Easterseals his whole life, on account of his disability and his need for an early intervention specialist, who helped him learn all of his early development skills until he was ready for school.

Elliot's mother was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, which is a disorder of pregnancy characterized by the onset of high blood pressure and often a significant amount of protein in the urine. Because of this, Elliot was born early, weighing only 1 pound, 9 ounces, or "the size of a water bottle" as his mother said.

Elliot made the crowd an offer they could not pass up while speaking at the podium.

"Whoever would like to be on team Elliot, raise your hand," Elliot asked the crowd as they all, overwhelmingly, raised their hands, as he gave a big smile to everyone.

The 2016 Eversource Walk & 5K Run for Easterseals attracted more than 2,500 participants and raised more than $260,000, making it the largest Easterseals walk nationwide. Although the 2017 event is still several months away, the kickoff breakfast at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics celebrated this success and began to prepare teams to outdo last year’s numbers.

“Easterseals is one of the largest human service agencies in the New Hampshire, helping more than 26,900 individuals with disabilities to live, learn, work and play in the communities where Eversource delivers energy every day,” said Easterseals President & CEO Larry Gammon. “Over the past three decades, Eversource employees have strongly embraced the work we do at Easterseals NH, and we are honored to partner with them on this event.”

Funds raised from the Eversource Walk & 5K Run for Easterseals will help Easterseals continue to provide services throughout the Granite State, including: autism services, inclusive child care and early intervention, special education, medical rehabilitation, camping and recreation, vocational services, senior services, substance abuse services, adult day programs, community-based services, individual service options, transportation services, residential service options, dental services and veteran services.

“Easterseals NH is vital to ensuring that thousands of our neighbors receive the support they need to attain success every day,” said Bill Quinlan, President of Eversource Operations in New Hampshire. “Eversource has supported Easterseals for many years because we believe in its mission and its value to the community. We’re looking forward to another great event this year!”
