Chef and owner of Portsmouth's Moxy nominated for Best Chef in James Beard Awards
PORTSMOUTH - Chef and owner of Portsmouth restaurant Moxy, Matt Louis was nominated by the James Beard Foundation in the category of Best Chef in the Northeast region for the 2016 James Beard Awards.
According to seacoastonline.com, the James Beard Foundation Awards recognize culinary professionals for excellence and achievement, covering 10 regional Best Chef categories as well as national categories like Outstanding Chef, Rising Star Chef of the Year and Outstanding Bar Program.
Originally raised in New Hampshire, Louis returned to the Granite State and opened Moxy with owner and partner Jay McSharry in May 2012.
Former Beard Award winners, a committee of critics and other regional panelists are expected to cast their votes to determine the five semifinalists for each category, which is scheduled to be announced on March 15.
Finally, winners will be announced at the 2016 James Beard Awards Gala at Lyric Opera in Chicago on May 2.
