Changing Families: Coffee could save your liver; Passport renewals set to flood in; Salmonella outbreak tied to powdered organic drink

Worried about your liver? Drink coffee.

Today scientists in the U.K. are saying two cups of coffee a day can help stave off liver disease caused by drinking too much alcohol, cutting your risk for the disease by a whopping 44-percent. Liver cirrhosis is caused by long-term effects of toxins like alcohol or due to hepatitis C.

Researchers from the University of Southampton in England reviewed nine long-term studies involving almost a half-million people.

If you have a passport, you might want to renew it sooner rather than later. That's because 49-million passports are set to expire over the net three years sparking a flood of renewals. The 2007 Real ID Act is to blame. That's the post 9/11 security measure requiring a passport to leave the country.

In 2007 18-million passports were issued. With so many set to expire next year renewing the state department is saying could take six weeks or longer if you're caught in the middle of that.

A multi-state salmonella outbreak is linked to a powdered drink. Garden of Life Raw Meal Organic Shake & Meal Replacement powder is blamed for making 11 people sick in 9 states. So far no cases here in New Hampshire, but the product is sold nationwide. Products with expiration dates between September 2017 through October 2017 are being recalled.
