Center Barnstead woman raising money for heart surgery for her bulldog puppy

CENTER BARNSTEAD - An English bulldog puppy with a heart condition prompted her owner to organize a spaghetti supper and a GoFundme page to raise money for surgery to save young Lola's life.

"She was diagnosed with severe pulmonic stenosis (narrowing of her pulmonary artery.) Her little heart has to work so hard to pump the blood. She was started on medication and we were told she needed to have heart surgery to open the narrowing in her valve," Heather Dreher wrote on the fundraising webpage.

The money for the surgery has to be paid up front, she said, and it will cost about $5,000, not including follow-up care. Lola is 9-months-old and was given to her as a gift by her boyfriend, Dreher said. The pup was found to have a heart murmur during her first check up, which led to the discovery of the heart problem.

Without surgery, the puppy will eventually suffer heart failure, Dreher said.

The spaghetti supper fundraiser is scheduled for March 13 in Northfield at the Merrimack Valley Railroad Station, 11 Park St. from 1-5 p.m. For more information, go to the event Facebook page.
