Car rolls into Nashua pond, driver ok

NASHUA - A driver who reversed over a curb and slid down an embankment into a pond escaped from the car safely Friday.

Firefighters say they were called to Newcastle Drive at the Royal Crest Apartments around 2 p.m. Firefighters found a silver Honda Civic in the pond and leaking fluids.

Police say the driver apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes by accident, sending the car over the curb, into a Comcast utility box and down the embankment before landing in the water. No charges will be brought.

Firefighters and officials from the state Department of Environmental Services used booms and absorbent pads to contain the gasoline and absorb other fluids that had spilled into the pond, which is linked to the Merrimack River.
