Canterbury Police Chief John LaRoche indicted on multiple felonious sexual assault charges


CANTERBURY - Canterbury Police Chief John LaRoche, who is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl between January 1999 and August 2000, was indicted on sexual assault charges Thursday.

LaRoche was indicted on six charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault, one charge of attempted aggravated assault, and three counts of sexual assault at Merrimack Superior Court.

In August, LaRoche, 44, was arrested and charged. He is still chief of police but is on unpaid leave from the department.

Court documents show that Canterbury officials knew about the alleged sexual assault last fall and did not do anything about it until his arrest.
