Candia waterpark faces auction after owner chained self to slide

The Associated Press

CANDIA — A New Hampshire waterpark is scheduled to be auctioned off after its owner had chained himself to a waterslide in an effort to attract investors interested in saving the business.

The auction is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Liquid Planet Water Park in Candia.

Kevin Dumont had climbed the slide on Nov. 9. But he ended his quest on Nov. 25, saying there were no takers and that a doctor believed he was developing pneumonia.

Dumont opened the park in 2008. Two wet summers kept crowds away and a series of financial problems immediately followed.

Dumont said he needed $1.5 million to pay off a bank loan

The auction includes the 42-acre park and two homes on the property where Dumont lives.
