Candia School District to address legal concerns of controversial transgender bathroom policy

CANDIA — The Candia School District's lawyer, Gordon Graham, is expected to address a controversial proposal to outline rules to accommodate transgender students, according to the Union Leader.

Graham will attend Thursday night's school board meeting to answer legal questions regarding the policy.

The public will have another chance to speak on the proposal before the board furthers their discussion on adopting the policy.

If the policy should pass, students that are transgender will be allowed to access the bathroom and locker room that corresponds to their gender identity. It is also stated in the policy that any student who wants increased privacy will have access to a single-stall bathroom.

The policy has gained support from some officials and residents but others have expressed concerns.
