Candia fire department adds tablets to its trucks to keep tabs on volunteer availability

CANDIA - Mobile tablets have been added to the town's fire trucks and other emergency vehicles to make it easier for them to find out which volunteers are available when there's a call.

The tablets link to a system called "I Am Responding." The software makes it possible for Candia fire department members to see who is available or responding to calls at any time of day.

According to the fire department, one of the biggest challenges of being a volunteer force is never knowing who is available to respond to calls. The software also includes a mapping feature that gives first responders the quickest route to any given address.

The Candia Fire Department has been using the software for a few years within the fire station but the tablets allow firefighters to have the information available to them in the field.
