Cameras being installed in all toll lanes in turnpike system

The Associated Press

CONCORD — The N.H. Department of Transportation is about to begin installing cameras in all toll lanes in the turnpike system.

Transportation officials say work will begin April 27 and should wrap up by mid-May.

Cameras already are operating in all dedicated E-Z Pass lanes and open road tolling lanes.

The cameras will take images of license plates of drivers who are evading toll payment, and others requesting a "no funds" payment slip.

Customers who pay, and all exempt vehicles, will have the images of their license plates deleted within three seconds of the transaction.

For those drivers who don't pay tolls, the department will obtain address information on the vehicle owner based on the license plate image and mail the owner of the vehicle a bill.
