Brush fires break out at Manchester park, suspect in custody
MANCHESTER (AP) — Officials say a suspect is in custody in connection with two afternoon brush fires that broke out Monday afternoon at Rock Rimmon Park in Manchester.
Firefighters responding to the park for the first fire encountered an acre of burning brush on arrival. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the blaze after about 40 minutes.
After the first fire was knocked out, a plume of smoke was spotted about a half-mile to the northwest. Firefighters remained at the scene of the second blaze for several hours before it was deemed under control.
Officials say teens in the area identified a suspect believed to have a role in starting the first fire. Fire officials are investigating.
