Breastfeeding advocates to rally in Concord

The Associated Press

CONCORD — Breastfeeding advocates will rally on the State House lawn in Concord to promote the benefits of breastfeeding and the importance of workplace policies that support breastfeeding mothers.

The event on Friday morning kicks off World Breastfeeding Week.

Workplace policies around breastfeeding came up for debate in the Legislature this year, but the House ultimately stalled efforts aimed at increasing protections for breastfeeding mothers. Democratic Sen. Martha Fuller Clark submitted a bill that would've required employers to provide a reasonable break time and a sanitary place that is not a toilet stall for women to express breast milk. Employers with fewer than 50 employees wouldn't have been subject to the requirements.

Fuller Clark and Republican Sen. Jeb Bradley will discuss the bill at a press conference during the event.
