Break-in reported at St. John's Episcopal Church hall in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH – The parish hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church on Chapel Street was broken into during the early morning hours Saturday.

Foster's Daily Democrat reported a cleaning woman discovered the glass on two doors in the lower level of the hall had been broken. The Rev. Robert Stevens, rector for the church, said someone forgot to lock the back door the previous evening.

“The only thing we found to be missing was a set of keys,” Stevens said. “But, we later found those in the Dumpster.”

Stevens said he was uncertain if anything was removed from the parish hall, home to the Common Table, which offers a free meal at noon every Thursday.
