Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell says he has lymphoma and is stepping away from the team.
Farrell said Friday that he was diagnosed with stage 1 lymphoma, which was found during a hernia surgery earlier in the week.
Bench coach Torey Lovullo will manage the Red Sox for the rest of the season.
Farrell will start treatment on Tuesday at Mass General.
Farrell, 53, has served as the Red Sox manager since he was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays in 2013.
He’s 372-390 overall as a manager and won the 2013 World Series with the Red Sox.
