BOSTON — The Boston Celtics will honor an Auburn man who suffered serious injuries while fighting in Iraq.

In 2005, an IED struck Sergeant David Bronson's Humvee while on a security patrol mission during his second combat tour in Iraq. Bronson survived a lengthy and difficult recovery, which included being in a coma for six days before being transported to Walter Reed Medical Center for rehabilitation. He spent a year-and-a-half relearning to walk before retiring to New Hampshire with his wife and two children.

Bronson eventually was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received in the attack.

The Celtics will pay tribute to Bronson during their Monday night game against the Washington Wizards.

The event is part of the Heroes Among Us program sponsored by the Celtics.
