Boko Haram video allegedly shows militants killing soldiers

The Associated Press

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) A new Boko Haram video allegedly shows a militant shooting wounded soldiers in the head, and charred parts claimed to be the remnants of a downed Nigerian jet fighter.

The first video released since the group pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group has no sign of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. There was no explanation for his absence. Shekau has been the mainstay of all previous videos.

An armed fighter with his face covered by a scarf claims Boko Haram still holds several northeastern towns. It says thousands of fighters remain in a northeastern forest stronghold.

The video gloats over what it claims is the disunity in the multinational force fighting to bring it down.

The home-grown Nigerian extremists swore allegiance to the Islamic State group in March.
