Boats collide in Gilmanton's Crystal Lake, several people injured

GILMANTON - Two boats dispersing after a fireworks show on Crystal Lake collided Saturday night, injuring several people.

Authorities said a 19-foot boat operated by Richard Downing, 62, of Connecticut, was approaching a planing speed when it collided with a 17-foot boat being operated by Nancy Renall, 62, of Gilmanton. Downing's boat landed on top of Renall's boat, and two of his four passengers were tossed into the water. Renall had four passengers on her boat that were struck by the hull of Downing's boat. Passengers were taken to area hospitals for facial trauma and possible internal injuries.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

Marine Patrol urges all boaters to exercise an extra degree of caution when operating during the hours of darkness and to remain vigilant to other boater’s navigational lights.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact State Police Marine Patrol at (603)293–2037.
