Boat ran over, killed 12-year-old girl after dad's hat blew from head on NH lake


HEBRON — A boating accident that killed a 12-year-old girl happened after her father's hat blew from his head.

New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol received a report of a serious boating accident on Newfound Lake in Hebron on Monday around 8:26 a.m.

Zoe Anderson, 12, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, was learning to slalom ski behind a 20-foot Cobalt powerboat being operated by her father, Sherwood P. Anderson, also of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

After Zoe fell, her father attempt to return to her location when his attention was momentarily distracted as his hat blew from his head. Sherwood Anderson placed his boat in neutral as the boat traveled over the top of Zoe causing serious injuries to her torso. Marine Patrol said the boat traveled at slow speeds during these events.

Family assisted Zoe from the water and immediately brought her to shore. Also aboard the boat were her mother, Tonya Anderson, and her 14-year-old sister.

CPR was initiated but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful, Marine Patrol said.
