Billionaire Steyer visits New Hampshire to talk clean energy

The Associated Press

CONCORD — Billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer is visiting New Hampshire to make an economic case for clean energy.

Steyer is the founder of NextGen Climate, a group working to make climate change a factor in the 2016 presidential election. The group spent money to help re-elect Democrat Jeanne Shaheen to the U.S. Senate in 2014.

Steyer will be here Friday to tour Squamscot Beverages in Newfields. He'll then join a discussion about clean energy policies with business leaders and environmental advocates.

Investing in clean energy became a subject of debate during New Hampshire's recent legislative session, as budget writers attempted to empty a state fund used to help finance renewable energy projects and Republican lawmakers spearheaded a failed effort to remove New Hampshire from a regional agreement to reduce greenhouse gases.
