Bicyclist killed in crash on Route 12 in Charlestown

CHARLESTOWN — A bicyclist was killed when he veered in front of a car on Route 12 near the intersection with Route 12A at 4 p.m.

The cyclist was identified as Lance Torrey, 50, of Charlestown. For reasons that are unknown, he veered into the path of an Acura Integra driven by Jeremiah Lawrence, 23, of Claremont. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be involved.

Torrey was taken to the Springfield Hospital in Vermont, where he was pronounced dead.

Route 12 was closed for four hours while the scene was investigated.

Lawrence was not injured, and no charges are being filed in connection with the incident.
