Bernie Sanders scores the most write-in votes in Granite State

NH1 News Political Director

CONCORD – Once again Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont came out on top in New Hampshire.

The 2016 Democratic presidential candidate who trounced eventual nominee Hillary Clinton by 22 percentage points in February’s first-in-the-nation primary was the top write-in vote getter in the Granite State in last week’s general election.

According to figures released by the New Hampshire Secretary of State’s office on Tuesday evening, Sanders received 4,493 out of 12,029 write-in votes cast.

Many of those votes may have come from people who would have otherwise cast a ballot for Clinton. The Democratic nominee narrowly edged out GOP nominee and now President-elect Donald Trump by just over 2,700 votes out of nearly three-quarters of a million cast, to win New Hampshire’s four electoral votes.

In second place in the write-in vote count was Republican Gov. John Kasich of Ohio, who received 1,365 votes. Kasich finished a strong second to Trump in February’s GOP presidential primary.

More than four times the amount of write-in votes were cast in New Hampshire this year compared to the 2012 presidential election.

Here is the complete list of write in votes:
