Bella Bond, AKA Baby Doe, remembered where she was found on Deer Island

DEER ISLAND- After months of being known only as Baby Doe, we now know 2-year-old Bella Bond is the young girl who was found dead on Deer Island.

It’s a tragic outcome to this story, but after months of wondering, Winthrop residents are relieved to know who this little girl was. Meanwhile a memorial to her grows where her body was found.

“We all feel so bad, we usually say a prayer,” said Jane Cuddy of Winthrop.

The Baby Doe image was viewed more than 60 million times online and put on billboards all around Boston. A tip led investigators to a Dorchester neighborhood, where little Bella hadn’t been seen for months.

Her mother, Rachelle Bond has been arrested and charged with accessory to murder after the fact. Her boyfriend, 35-year-old Michael McCarthy, was charged with murder.

“He and Bond took specific steps to keep Bella’s death a secret and to avoid prosecution,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley.

Both Bond and McCarthy are due to be arraigned Monday.
