Bedford officials review proposal to hire 2nd school resource officer
BEDFORD — School officials are reviewing a proposal to hire a second school resource officer.
The town has been awarded a federal grant to hire another SRO, but the grant would only partially fund the first three years' worth of salary and benefits, the Union Leader reported.
Police Chief John Bryfonski said that SROs are important to have because they keep the school safe and also serve as mentors, companions and role models for students.
The existing Bedford SRO, William Donahue, has made 15 arrests at the high school since 2012, and 68 significant incidents have warranted investigations, police said.
