Bear hunter flips over on ATV without helmet, carried 150 yards out of woods

The Associated Press

MOULTONBOROUGH (AP) — New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers say a hunter transporting a black bear on his ATV suffered non-life-threatening injuries when the vehicle rolled over while descending Ossipee Mountain.

Officers say 75-year-old Tom Bonnell of Ayer, Massachusetts, was not wearing a helmet during the crash in Moultonborough on Monday night.

His hunting partner called for help.

Bonnell was carried 150 yards and then driven by ATV to an ambulance that took him to the Moultonborough Airport. He was flown to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Conservation officers completed the removal and care of the harvested bear.
