Barnstead man accused of stealing guns to trade for heroin

BARNSTEAD - A month-long investigation led to the arrest of a man police said was stealing guns and trading them for drugs.

Shelby Davis, 33, of Parade Road in Barnstead is facing several felony charges. Police executed a search warrant at his home Wednesday, finding two containers buried in a dirt basement containing 9 stolen guns.

Most of the guns were stolen from local businesses and homes, but Barnstead Police are working with several towns after learning Davis had sold two handguns in Manchester that have yet to be located.

Among the evidence recovered from the home, a crow bar and what police described as an "assault rifle."

In an exclusive interview with NH1 News, Davis' mother said she's frustrated because her son has a substance abuse issue and was not able to find affordable treatment.

"I don't have the money for it. He doesn't have the money for it," Linda Davis said.

Davis is being held on $30,000 cash bail. Police said more arrests are expected.
