Balsams Resort developers plan to begin work in June 2016

The Associated Press

CONCORD — The developers of the Balsams Resort in New Hampshire say they plan to begin construction on new buildings on June 1,

Other work, including demolition and interior renovations, will begin before June 1, according to the developers.

New Hampshire Public Radio reports developers told Coos County officials on Tuesday the target date for construction would allow for the now-closed resort to be possibly open by the end of 2016 or early 2017.

A spokesman for developer Dixville Capital says other work may start earlier than June.

Dixville Capital officials met with the Coos County Planning Board to iron out the details of a long-range, multi-year concept plan for the ski resort and hotel.

The planning board still must approve a detailed site plan, which it has yet to receive, before construction begins.

The resort closed in 2011, laying off approximately 300 full and part-time employees.
