BABY WATCH: April the giraffe, what you need to know

NEW YORK - An adorable giraffe is about to be born at a zoo in New York. The zoo has set up a live camera so you can watch.

Top 5 things you need to know about April the giraffe and her baby calf.

  1. April is 15-years-old and this will be her 4th calf. The father, Oliver is five-years-old and this is his first offspring
  2. Giraffes give birth standing up. The calf will be born hooves first then head and plop on the ground.
  3. Giraffes are pregnant for 15 months before giving birth. The calf will be around 150 pounds and 6 feet tall when he/she is born.
  4. Mom will raise the calf, and nourish the calf with her milk until the calf is 6 to 10 months old.
  5. The giraffes are at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York which is upstate near Syracuse.
