Authorities: Largest heroin bust in NH history
CONCORD - The U.S. attorney's office says almost eight pounds of heroin are off the streets and eight people have been arrested following a long-term investigation into the trafficking of heroin and cocaine in the Keene area.
The heroin bust is the largest in the state's history. In addition to heroin they also seized cocaine, oxycodone and more than 10 guns.
"By any standard a significant haul but by New Hampshire standards obviously sort of record breaking," said US Attorney John Kacavas.
"In 2000 the state had about 50 overdose deaths. In 2014 we had over 300," said NH Attorney General Joseph Foster.
Those arrested range in age from 28-56 and are from the communities of Richmond, Winchester, Keene, and Lawrence, Mass. The charges range from unlawful distribution of heroin to conspiracy and possession.
