Authorities investigate Andover tractor trailer crash, oil spill that closed Route 4
ANDOVER — Officials are trying to figure out what made a tractor-trailer driver hauling a large quantity of heating oil drive off road into the woods close to the Andover-Salisbury town line on Friday morning, closing Route 4 for over seven hours.
The Union Leader reports that a J.P. Noonan transportation truck carrying several thousand gallons of oil was driving north headed towards Proctor Academy.
Three cars were behind the truck and the drivers of these vehicles told police the truck was not speeding before it left the road at 10 a.m.
Rescue crews used the Jaws of Life to rescue the driver, a man in his 50s, from the wreckage. He was able to climb out after the wreckage was cut open, but he was not able to recall how he left the roadway.
Clean Harbors Environmental was called to clean up the spilled oil.
