Attempted assault on woman, fight with cop ends in arrest
MANCHESTER- Police say a man attempting to assault a woman ended up instead in a fight with a police officer on the city's west side over the weekend.
Police say they arrived at 115 Goffe Street about 5:40 p.m. Sunday for a report of a disturbance. Officer Jason Soucy arrived on the scene and observed a man yelling profanities at three people standing on the building's porch.
Soucy attempted to speak with the man, later identified as Dustin Rousseau, 30, of Manchester, who appeared irate, according to police. Soucy ran up stairs towards the three people and attempted to assault a 52-year-old family member. At that time Rousseau turned and hit Soucy with his fist.
Soucy fought with Rousseau on the ground as he attempted to place him in custody. Soucy was ultimately able to handcuff him and took him to Manchester's police headquarters.
Police determined that Rousseau slammed a door inside the apartment during an argument with family members, causing damage to the wall and breaking glass in the door.
Rousseau was charged with simple assault (on a police officer), two counts of criminal mischief and resisting arrest/detention. He was scheduled to be arraigned in 9th Circuit Court, Manchester, Monday.
