CANDIA — A huge crate of asbestos was found within building materials left in an abandoned 1,700 pound wooden box on North Road on Aug. 11.
An official with the NH Department of Environmental Services verified that the box contained asbestos after a resident reported finding the large box. It was later removed.
When asbestos fibers are breathed in, they can get trapped in the lungs resulting in scarring and inflammation. This can affect breathing and lead to serious health problems such as lung cancer and mesothelioma, according to the National Cancer Institute.
If anyone reported suspicious activity in the area, call the Candia Police Department at 603-483-2318.
