Arrest in connection to apparent heroin overdose in Portsmouth, NH

PORTSMOUTH- Benjamin Rogers, 29 of Newmarket, was arraigned Wednesday on a video feed from the Rockingham County Jail.

Rogers is charged with one count of providing Cassie Clermont with heroin on Oct. 17, 2014 and one count of Falsifying Physical Evidence for deleting text messages from his phone between himself and Clermont.

Clermont was found dead in her Ledgewood Drive apartment on Oct. 18, 2014 from an apparent drug overdose. Toxicology analysis from the NH Medical Examiner's Office is still pending. If it is determined that Cassandra Clermont died from a heroin provided by Rogers, Rogers may be charged with causing her death under RSA 318-B:26.

According to Clermont's obituary, she's a graduate of Nashua High School South. Her boyfriend released a statement saying, "Cassie was an amazing woman with a huge heart who loved her family and friends with everything she had. She had an infectious smile that no one that met her will ever forget."

According to police it could take another six weeks to get the results of Clermont's toxicology report - but if it's determined she died as a result of the heroin allegedly provided by rogers - he could face up to life in prison.

Police say the Seacoast area is no stranger to the statewide heroin epidemic.

Roger's bail was set at $25,000. He's due back in court Nov. 17.
