Heave Ho: Hancock Heroes Lend Helping Hand to Hobbled Horse
HANCOCK — Hancock police and fire responded to a call of a draft horse who was unable to stand up in a barn-type structure on Bennington Road around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials found the horse, named Blondie, on its side, and appeared to be very tired. The last time Blondie had been seen on her feet was 6:30 p.m. the night before but no one was sure how long she had been down.
A veterinarian was called as well as Hancock highway workers to assist. Officials believe the horse slipped on the ice and was not able to get up.
It took more than three hours to get the horse back up on her feet using straps and come-a-longs.
Police say the horse suffered minor injuries, and that she could have suffered more extensive injuries.
A few hours after the rescue, Hancock police updated their Facebook post saying, "Blondie is up and eating. She has some minor things going (on). Seems to be doing well so far."
