Alton Teachers' Association to host 'emergency community meeting' in response to board meeting upset

ALTON - After a meeting held by Alton School Board was said to leave many residents, parents and teachers upset, the Alton Teachers' Association is hosting an emergency community meeting to address the conduct of some of the school board members during Monday's meeting.

The School Board's meeting ended in less than five minutes where teachers and parents who attended hoped to discuss the recently-released Alton Teachers' Association "culture-and-climate" survey results. Alton's superintendent is seen walking out of the meeting in frustration, where parents are seeking her removal.

The survey paints a devastatingly bleak picture of the current work environment in Alton saying that there is little or no confidence in the current superintendent and school administration, as well as has a low teacher morale.

In response, the Alton Teachers' Association is hosting an emergency community meeting on Thursday to address the issues of Monday's meeting.

The meeting will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Prospect Mountain High School Auditorium, of 242 Suncook Valley Rd., where community members, parents and educators are urged to attend.
