Allenstown holds public hearing on smoking ban at town properties tonight

ALLENSTOWN - Residents will have their chance to weigh in on a possible ban of smoking on town property tonight.

Town Administrator Shaun Mulholland told The Union-Leader the specifics of the ordinance — like whether it would include town-owned fields and open spaces — will be decided after the public hearing.

The idea for crafting the ordinance came from the construction of the new community center on Whitten Street, which will house the Boys and Girls Club of Suncook and the Suncook Senior Center.

Because regulations for the Boys and Girls Club requires that grounds that house the program be smoke-free, Mulholland said the town decided to look into expanding the ordinance's coverage.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m.
