Alleged impaired NH driver accused of crashing into stop sign, driving onto school lawn

LACONIA — A man is accused of driving under the influence after he crashed into a stop sign and drove up onto a sidewalk and then the lawn of a school.

Jeremy Lapoint, 22, of 1156 North Main Street Apt. 19 in Laconia, was allegedly driving west on Church Street, crossed the intersection onto Messer Street, and crashed into the stop sign at the end of Messer Street. Police say he allegedly drove up onto the sidewalk along Messer Street and onto the lawn of the Holy Trinity School.

Lapoint then allegedly tried to drive off, but his rear tires were spinning in the snow and mud on the lawn, and his car was unable to move. No injuries were reported.

Officers originally responded to the scene while under the impression it was a three-car accident around 7:54 p.m. Wednesday. Once on the scene, they learned Lapoint was the only car involved.

The officer charged Lapoint with driving under the influence of drug and/or liquor. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on April 6 at 8:15 a.m. in Laconia.
