All but 1 of Weare Police Department's cruisers being repaired
WEARE (AP) - All but one of the Weare Police Department's eight cruisers are off the road for repairs.
Chief Sean Kelly tells the Concord Monitor that more than $17,000 has been spent repairing the cruisers. Voters at town meeting in March voted down a request for five new police cars.
The cruisers have had issues from head gasket leaks to suspension problems.
Kelly says toward the end of fiscal year 2015, he decided to defer expensive repairs that did not require immediate attention in the interest of saving money.
The newest vehicle is a 2013 Ford Interceptor Utility, but it was among 81,000 vehicles recalled for a problem that led to steering issues. The parts aren't available until July.
The department has relied on mutual aid from departments in abutting towns.
