Alexandria, NH mourns infant's death on what would have been 1st birthday

On the Alexandria common, on a cold fall night, the town of Alexandria mourned the loss of 11 month old baby SJ.

“It hits. It’s a baby, what happened to him heinous. It shouldn't have happened,” said Louise Hamburg who attended Monday’s vigil.

Family members, friends, and some people who admit they didn’t even know the child said they felt obligated to remember SJ, especially on Monday his birthday he would have been one year old.

“As a small community you stick together and you try to support each other and that's what it’s all about,” said Dawn Jones who organized the event on behalf of the family.

Many in the crowd told NH1 News they are saddened and still looking for answers in this case.

“A baby died, how could he defend himself? What causes anyone to get that angry at a child," said Holmburg.

The Attorney General still has yet to make an arrest in the child's death and in the meantime the community goes on while the family waits for justice for SJ.

“I pray that find the guidance to get through this in a peaceful way and not in an angry way. [This something] you'll never forget,” said Jones.
