AG warns about illegal raffles after complaints of one that never held $12k drawing

CONCORD - Officials are warning people to be careful of those selling raffle tickets without being properly registered with the state's Department of Justice Charitable Trusts unit.

The call comes after complaints were filed about a raffle being hosted by a group calling itself "Smile God Loves U" to raise money for a substance abuse center.

The $50 raffle tickets promised the winner would receive either two snowmobiles with a trailer or $12,500 with a drawing on Jan. 30, 2016, but no drawing was held. When reached, organizers said they did not sell enough tickets. One person did secure a refund. The substance abuse center never received a dime from the raffle.

The Attorney General's office urges anyone who purchased a ticket to contact Smile God Loves U. Consumers with any information concerning this organization should contact the
Charitable Trusts Unit at (603) 271-3591.
