Activists: Air raids hit IS group in eastern Syria

The Associated Press

BEIRUT (AP) Syrian activists say aircraft have conducted at least 10 strikes on suspected Islamic State positions in an eastern town near the Iraqi border.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says it was not immediately clear who carried out the air raids Wednesday in and around Boukamal.

But the Observatory cites locals as saying the intensity of the air raids is similar to that of strikes on the town early Tuesday by the U.S.-led military coalition.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. or its Arab allies.

Boukamal is located on the Syria-Iraq border. The Islamic State group controls both sides of the frontier.
