RINDGE - Reading through the names of those killed in the 9/11 attacks took about three hours in a morning ceremony at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, and then the process was repeated in the afternoon.
It was just one of numerous events across northern New England on Sunday as the region paused with the nation to recall the series of attacks that unfolded on a Tuesday morning 15 years ago.
In Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, the anniversary was marked by special religious services, public remembrances and statements from elected officials.
Participants honored the nearly 3,000 victims killed in the 2001 attacks, with special emphasis on the first responders — firefighters and police officers — who died in the struggle to save others.
